Sustainability – the ZICK ZACK way
Three main factors make ZICK ZACK LIGHT a sustainable luminaire: material simplicity, lamp exchange and lightweight design. We are getting close to a principle of re-use and no-waste, striving towards a cradle-to-cradle approach.
ZICK ZACK LIGHT has a smaller ecological footprint than other luminaires in the category of office lighting thanks to a unique, simple approach.
Material purity
The luminaire has a revolutionary design based on only six different elements, most of which are made from one material only, with no composite materials. The aluminium sheet at the core of the luminaire is a pure sheet and therefore recyclable at the end of the luminaire’s lifetime. Aluminium can be a sustainable material if recycling is made easy – ZICK ZACK fulfils this promise.
A lamp for a generation
As ZICK ZACK uses LED lamps, the lifetime is already more than 50,000 hours. Assuming that the ZICK ZACK is in use five hours per day on average, it would be ready to be your luminaire for about 27 years. The manufacturer gives a guarantee for five years but, like most LED lamp manufacturers, after 50,000 hours, more than two thirds of the light intensity is still guaranteed.
A luminaire for your lifetime
Going even further, despite being an LED luminaire, ZICK ZACK LIGHT does not need to be fully disposed of once the LED lifetime is over, as is the case with many of today’s luminaires, which produce an immense amount of waste. Instead, you can replace the lamp with a new one. In this way, ZICK ZACK can be the luminaire of your life, where you might need to replace the lamp only twice in 60 years.
Recyclable components
If you choose to get rid of ZICK ZACK for whatever reason, most of the parts are recyclable, in particular the aluminium sheet (100% aluminium), the ceiling mounts (100% compostable plastic) and the hanging cable (100% stainless steel).
Using a LED retro-fit lamp
The prefabricated LED lamp is subject to the sustainability measures of the lamp manufacturer. We chose the manufacturer with the strongest approach to sustainability.
Small shipping footprint
Due to its lightweight design of only 998 g for the entire luminaire, ZICK ZACK has a small ecological footprint when it comes to shipping. In addition, we have simplified production and limited shipping needs by using only a small number of components and by producing the product in Italy.
